چکیده
The recent maiden voyage of the Yara Birkeland witnessed yet another development in autonomy that is transforming maritime sector. Marine autonomous surface ships (MASS) are claimed to bring many opportunities society at large, not least terms operational efficiency and safety crew, fewer emissions, greener shipping. On assumption MASS will prove safe enough ply our seas oceans, this article investigates flexibility ability existing International Maritime Organization (IMO) regulations on ships’ routing, ship reporting, vessel traffic service (VTS) respond technological developments, allowing for operation both remotely controlled without seafarers board fully ships. It argues question largely supportive autonomy. Challenges, however, exist when it comes employment effective use VTS.

Fuzzy Decision on Optimal Collision Avoidance Measures for Ships in Vessel Traffic Service
This article proposes a new collision avoidance decision method for ships, allowing ships at risk of collision to take timely collision avoidance measures to ensure safe passage. Through vessel traffic service (VTS) collision alert system, an analysis can be made for the probability of a ship collision and an early warning can be issued. For ships in potential collision danger, the proposed met...
متن کاملDecision support for vessel traffic service (VTS): user needs for dynamic risk management in the VTS.
Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) is a shore-side service implemented by a "Competent Authority to improve the safety and efficiency of vessel traffic and to protect the environment". It is a service that operates through VTS centers, from which VTS operators monitor traffic, assist in navigational matters and provide information to all ships in a designated area. As VTS is provided by operators loc...

Alarm indicators are a very simple and important user interface for many control tasks, and are known to be problematic. Alarms on ships have increased in number and importance. Recent incidents such as Savannah Express, Aquitaine and others have identified a number of important issues in the way that alarm systems support safe and effective work. The state of alarm systems onboard is inconsist...
متن کاملImproving Energy Efficiency of Ships through Optimisation of Ship Operations
Increased environmental concerns, resulted in new legislation, and high and volatile fuel prices are today’s driving forces to reduce operational costs and become greener. Reduction of fuel consumption acts as the main contributor towards this. In the context of the given economic pressure and from international law point of view, the amount of energy-savings by vessel fuel should be increased ...
